Cowinx

Cowinx on Zoom, Meet, Teams & Webex

Cowinx's private workspace behavior is handled by macOS, while each meeting app has its own screen-share UI. Here is the one check that applies to all of them, plus Zoom's one specific setting.

Prerequisites

Cowinx must be installed and granted all three permissions first — see Install & first launch. And whichever platform you use, finish with the pre-flight check.

The one rule

Cowinx is designed to keep its workspace out of selected shares where the operating system and meeting app support that behavior. Your job is to confirm the outgoing view and avoid share modes that grab the whole display unpredictably.

Share a specific window or screen — then watch it from a second device.

Pick the share target deliberately rather than letting the app auto-detect, and verify the result from a second device before the real call. That single habit covers every platform below.

1

Zoom

Zoom is the most common platform for technical interviews, and it has one setting that matters. Its screen capture mode controls what Zoom can actually see when you share — and the wrong mode can expose overlays.

Enable Advanced capture with window filtering

  1. 1
In Zoom, go to Settings → Share Screen → Advanced.
  2. 2
Under Screen capture mode, select Advanced capture with window filtering.
  3. 3
This mode focuses on the windows you explicitly select and reduces accidental capture of floating panels or system-level windows.
  4. 4
Close and re-open the Settings window to confirm the selection is saved.
Zoom Settings → Share Screen → Advanced → select Advanced capture with window filtering as the screen capture mode

Important

The default Auto-detect can capture overlays and floating windows. Always switch to Advanced capture with window filtering before any Zoom interview.
2

Google Meet, Microsoft Teams & Webex

These don't need a Zoom-style capture-mode setting. The reliable habit is identical across all three:

  1. 1
When you share, choose a specific window or screenfrom the picker rather than an “automatic” or app-detected option.
  2. 2
Join the meeting from a second device (or use the platform's own self-preview) and confirm the shared view contains only what you intended to share.
  3. 3
Because the menus differ between apps and change between versions, treat the second-device check as the source of truth, not any single menu path.

Note

On any platform, re-run the second-device check after a meeting-app or macOS update — capture behavior can change between versions.

Solving during a call

Once you're in the call, the flow is the same everywhere:

  1. 1
If the question is spoken aloud: just listen. Cowinx transcribes it in real time from the meeting audio.
  2. 2
If the question is shared on screen: press S to capture the region with the question.
  3. 3
Press to solve — in code, a system-design outline, or behavioral STAR format.
