Fix common Cowinx issues
Problem-to-fix recipes for the issues we see most often. Use ⌘F to find the keyword matching what you're seeing.
macOS says Cowinx cannot be opened
Gatekeeper · unidentified developer · app is damaged
Open Cowinx once and let the launch fail. Then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, choose Open Anyway, and confirm. Do not download a replacement build from an unofficial mirror.
Cowinx cannot capture meeting audio
no transcript · microphone · system audio
In System Settings → Privacy & Security, enable both Microphone and Screen & System Audio Recording for Cowinx. Quit the app completely and reopen it after changing permissions. Check that the meeting is playing through the selected Mac output device.
Screen Recording permission is enabled but nothing changes
permission stuck · macOS 14 · relaunch
Toggle the permission off, quit Cowinx, restart the Mac, then enable it again and relaunch. macOS can retain a stale permission grant after an app update. Cowinx requires macOS 14.4 or later.
The workspace appears in a screen share
Zoom · Teams · Meet · shared workspace
Update macOS, Cowinx, and the meeting app, then test in a private call from a second device. Share the intended screen or window rather than changing capture modes mid-call. Re-run the pre-flight check and stop using the workspace if your test shows it in capture.
Q&A notes are slow or do not arrive
latency · timeout · network
Confirm the transcript is updating first. Disable VPN or restrictive proxy rules temporarily, switch to a stable network, and retry with a shorter transcript context. Provider time to first token is only one part of end-to-end latency; speech detection and transcription happen before it.
Login returns to the browser instead of Cowinx
Google login · redirect · session
Keep Cowinx open while authenticating, allow the browser to open the Cowinx callback, and retry from the app. If the callback is blocked, set your default browser temporarily and disable link-cleaning extensions.
